CONSTITUTIONAL LAW
Law 500
Spring 2008

1. Description (from the Law School's course catalog). This course provides an introduction to federal constitutional law and constitutional theory. Topics covered include the theory and practice of judicial review, including approaches to constitutional interpretation; separation of powers, with emphases on congressional powers and the reserved powers of the states; and, as time permits, an introduction to the Fourteenth Amendment's equal protection and due process guarantees.

2. Book. Lee Epstein and Thomas G. Walker. 2007. Constitutional Law for Changing America: Institutional Powers and Constraints, 6th ed. Washington, D.C.: Congressional Quarterly Press. With a case archive, available at: http://clca.cqpress.com/

Please note that this is a two-volume book. Because approximately 75 percent of the cases we cover are in Volume I (Powers and Constraints), you need not purchase Volume II (Rights and Liberties). In class, I'll hand out the relevant material from Volume II.
